Zwettl is the capital of Lower Austria's largest district and is located in the heart of the Waldviertel and is therefore also a regional centre. In the year 2000 the city celebrated the 800-Year anniversary, and thus Zwettl has historical and cultural value.
Railway station Zwettl
On 11th May 1895 ground was broken for the railroad. The station of Zwettl is mainly for loading of timber and fuel, furthermore a regular passenger traffic takes place. The station is classified as a small regional station, because it is not frequented by many people. Especially on the main railway line 1 the traffic happens.
At the station premises you can also find the heating house of the Museum Railway Club with its locomotives and wagons. The vehicles are located on the grounds of the heating house and only leave the station for approved special trips.
